Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), like all chromatographic techniques, based on multistage distribution process involving;
Suitable absorbants ( as stationary phase ) coated as a thin layer onto a suitable support such as glass, aluminium or polyester sheet.
Solvents or solvent mixtures as the mobile phase.
Sample molecules
Although the TLC principle is known more than 100 years, today TLC has gained increasing importance.
Applicability of TLC was enhanced by development of new absorbants and supports.
